...veterinary clinical procedures

SPVS is leading this project, which aims to ascertain how clinicians are approaching certain clinical conditions. The aim is to get 200 veterinary surgeons to provide details of how they actually address clinical conditions. Initially we will look at 3 conditions – 1 each for small animal, equine and farm animal practitioners. The data will be anonymised before it is analysed and so it will not be possible to identify the data with a particular individual. The study is being co–ordinated by Dr Mark Johnston (who carried out the Confidential Enquiry into Peri–operative Equine Fatalities) who collected data and reported the analysis on very sensitive cases.

The study is being spear–headed by SPVS who have a very clear ambition to understand and support how we as clinicians work in practice.

The objective of the study is just to find out how we as clinicians are approaching cases in an empirical sense.

Evidence based medicine is increasingly important and this is a first step along the road to ascertain what we are doing in practice. There is no right or wrong way of addressing a particular case. At this point in time we are collecting the data which can be used in due course to form the basis of a clinical benchmarking process.

Please join in and enter your information. The whole project will only become worthwhile if a significant number of practitioners take part. It should take no longer than 10 minutes of your time for each questionnaire that you complete.
